Kid'sWay at Home :: Week of October 25

In our new series "Flash Forward", kids will learn that hope is being sure that God will do good things. Each week includes a family lesson that parents can use with both preschool and elementary kids, as well as a preschool video and an elementary video that will help kids see how they can become a PRO at having hope by doing three things: Pray, Remember, and Obey.
Need To Know :: I Can Give Hope. Matthew 5:1-16, 1 Peter 3:15
We have provided a few discussion questions to review after watching Sunday's service.
Read Matthew 5:1-16, 1 Peter 3:15

Question #1:  What did Jesus teach to the people on the hillside? (Anyone who's sad or in need of something, everyone who is humble, shows mercy or tries to do the right thing, and anyone who is hurt or made fun of would be blessed.)

Question #2: Jesus said we are like what type of food seasoning? (Salt) We can show people that no matter what happens He's going to do good things.

Question #3: Jesus said that when we believe in Him and follow Him we are like what for all to see? (Light) The hope we have when we are sure God will do great things is like a light we carry around. People can see the hope we have just like you can see a bright shining city on a dark night.

Question #4:  Would you light a candle for light then put it under a bowl? (No) You would leave it uncovered so that you could see. That's what Jesus tells us to do, shine our light high and bright for all to see.

Question #5:  How can you give hope to others? (By praying with and for them, by helping them to remember how God has taken care of us in the past, by helping them to obey while they wait for God to do good things.)

Read 1 Samuel 17, 18:6-9, 24:1-7, Psalm 32:1-5

Question #1:  Did David do his best to obey God or King Saul? (David wasn't perfect, and he made mistakes, but he did his best to obey God.)

Question #2: Should you obey all the time or only when it's easy to do? (All the time) When we obey, we are showing God we love Him. And He promises to give us hope that good things are coming when we obey.

Question #3: When King Saul showed up in the cave where David was hiding, did David hurt King Saul or obey God? (Obey God) David knew that God said it was wrong to hurt others so he obeyed God and let King Saul go.

Question #4:  If God tells us to obey, does that mean it will always be easy to do? (No) Sometimes obeying is not the easiest thing to do, and you may not feel like doing it. But when we obey, He will help us and give us hope!

Question #5:  After David disobeyed God, what did he do- run and hide or ask God to forgive him? (Ask God to forgive him) We may not always do the right thing, but God wants us to come to Him and ask Him for forgiveness. He promises to forgive us and give us hope!

Question #1:  Who was Paul? (An Apostle of Jesus)

Question #2: Was Paul always a follower of Jesus? (No, Paul once persecuted Christians)

Question #3: How did God get Paul's attention? (God knocked him off his donkey and blinded him. He later meet a man who told him about Jesus.)

Question #4:  How old was Abraham when God kept his promise and gave him his son Isaac? (100 years old)

Question #5:  God Kept His promise to Abraham and years later Paul reminded Christians in letters he wrote to encourage them that God Keeps His Promises. How can you remember all God's promises He's kept for us and who can we share that with this week?

Question #1:  Where did God ask Jonah to go? (Nineveh)

Question #2: When Jonah ran from God and found himself in the belly of the fish what did Jonah do when he began to lose hope? (He prayed to God.)

Question #3: When Jonah prayed what did God do in response? (God filled Jonah with hope.)

Question #4:  What did Jonah remember when He prayed in the belly of the fish? (God had important things for him to do.)

Question #5:  Did Jonah obey God right away? (No, but after he prayed and was filled with hope Jonah did the right thing and obeyed God.)

Question #1:  How did Joseph's brothers feel about him in the beginning of the story and what did that lead them to do? (Jealous. Threw him down a well and sold him.)

Question #2: What special gift did God give Joseph to help the man who was in prison with him? (The ability to interpret dreams)

Question #3: What super important person did Joseph interpret a dream for that led to him being released from prison? (The King)

Question #4:  How did Joseph go PRO? (He talked to God when things were very hard and he felt hopeless, he remembered all the good God had done in the past, he obeyed God and was kind to his brothers, giving them food)

Question #5:  How can you go PRO this week? (Open for discussion)
