S.O.A.P BIBLE STUDY
We believe that God is loving and kind, and that He desires a growing relationship with each of us. Through the gift of His Word, the Bible, we get to learn about who God is, the new life we have in Jesus Christ, and the promises He has for us. Spending regular time reading and understanding God’s Word is key to experiencing that growing relationship with Him, and S.O.A.P. is a great method to use for your personal study.
How Does It Work?
S – Scripture
Open your Bible to your reading for the day. Take time reading and allow God to speak to you. When you are done, look for a verse that particularly spoke to you that day, and write it in your journal.
O – Observation
Next just observe what’s going on in the passage: Who is speaking? Who is listening? What do you think God is saying through this Scripture? Are there any instructions to follow? What can you learn? And so on. Jot down any observations you gathered.
A – Application
Personalize what you have read by asking yourself how it applies to your life right now. Perhaps it is instruction, encouragement, a new promise, or corrections for a particular area of your life. Write how this scripture can apply to you today.
P – Prayer
Pray. Simply, talk to Jesus about what you just read and studied. Remember, prayer is a two-way conversation, so be sure to listen to what God has to say as well. Write out a prayer if that is helpful.
