2021 PLAN

“Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do amazing things among you.”

Joshua 3.5 NIV

Getting Started

Kingsway Church begins a year long endeavor to read the scriptures daily, prioritize time with God
and practice the spiritual discipline of weekly fasting.

Biblical literacy rates have dropped over the years even though general literacy rates have risen. If we do not read the Bible, then we will not know it. And if we do not know the Bible, we cannot Know God and Follow God in his Way that is revealed in it.

Would you commit to joining us in "consecrating ourselves" before the Lord at throughout 2021?

"And rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, he departed and went out to a desolate place, and there he prayed."
-Mark 1.35 ESV

A Certain Time

Jesus got up early in the morning to spend time with His Heavenly Father. In order for prayer to work, we should do the same. Make a daily appointment with God and keep it

A Certain Place

Jesus had a prayer place. Your prayer place needs to be an undistracted environment where you can pray out loud and perhaps have some worship music playing in the background.

A Certain Plan

Plan to read Scripture daily, spend time in prayer and incorporate a one day fast into our week.   We will be using a bible reading plan developed by The Bible Project.

Kingsway Church will be partnering with The Bible Project and Read Scripture who have created a unique and powerful daily reading experience called Read Scripture to help you engage with the Bible. We encourage you to download the Read Scripture App below, as it cleanly presents each day’s reading along with the beautiful Read Scripture videos.
You can also download the PDF guide.

Daily B.R.E.A.D

We will daily approach to Scripture using the acronym BREAD to guide us. This approach to Scripture reading invites us to:

BE STILL: Find a place where you can encounter God, ask Him to fill the space and then take a minute in stillness.
READ: Read scripture slowly and look for one verse that stands out, grabs your attention, or interests you.
ENCOUNTER: Take your chosen verse and meditate on it, consider what God might be saying to you.
APPLY: Turn your focus outwards, think about how you might be able to apply this to your day.
DEVOTE: Close by writing a simple prayer of devotion to God.
The video below is a brief description about how the Bible Project reading plan works.
Watch the Genesis Part 1 video in preparation for the start of Genesis in our bible reading plan.

Genesis Part 1

Watch the overview video on Genesis 1-11, which breaks down the literary design of the book and its flow of thought. In Genesis, God makes a good world and commissions humans to rule it, and then they give in to evil and ruin everything.

Genesis Part 2

Watch the overview video on Genesis 12-50, which breaks down the literary design of the book and its flow of thought. In Genesis, God promises to bless rebellious humanity through the family of Abraham, despite their constant failure and folly.

We encourage our church community to fast at least one day per week, dinner to dinner (6pm-6pm generally, 24 hours).

Fasting is an extremely powerful spiritual discipline that requires preparation and determination to complete. Below we have linked several articles to help you learn and prepare appropriately.

Periodically in 2021, we will be gathering on Wednesday evenings from 7-9pm for worship and prayer.  This will take place in Cherry Hill  and Glassboro; plus, be live streamed.  On the Wednesdays we have worship nights, we encourage you to make that your day of fasting. Prayer and fasting combined is a powerful tool to seek God and be changed by His leading and presence in our lives.

How To Read the Bible

We encourage you to explore this 19 part series created by The Bible Project. This series explores the origins, content, and purpose of the Bible. Here you'll be introduced to some of the basic skills necessary for reading the bible effectively.

What is the Bible?

This is episode 1 of an ongoing series that explores the origins, content, and purpose of the Bible. Here you'll be introduced to a condensed history of how the Bible came into existence, and the different forms of the Bible in the Catholic, Orthodox, and Protestant Christian traditions.

The Story of the Bible

Episode 2  summarizes the overall story of the Bible as a series of crossroad decisions. All humanity, followed by the Israelites, redefine good and evil and end up in Babylon. They are followed by Jesus, who takes a different path that opens up the way to a new creation.

Literary Styles in the Bible

Episode 3 shows how reading the Bible wisely requires that we learn about the ancient literary styles used by the biblical authors. These writers expressed their ideas and claims through a variety of different type of literature, and this video will explore why it's important to tell them apart so we can hear their message on their terms.
